SUSTAINABLY HARVESTED OPTIMUM 5.5 MOSO BAMBOO
For all Teragren products, we use only Optimum 5.5 Moso bamboo known for its dense fibers. The bamboo is harvested sustainably at maturity, 5 1/2 to 6 years, for optimal density. These specifications help our products avoid the cupping and warping problems associated with less-expensive, younger bamboo.
CARBON SEQUESTRATION: CLEANER AIR, CARBON OFFSETS
The leafy canopy of bamboo plants helps reduce global warming by realeasing 35 percent more oxygen than a comparable hardwood forest. Over a plant’s lifespan, rapid regrowth produces multiple canopies that restore oxygen to the air.
Bamboo is a fast-growing grass. Moso regrows in just six years and can be harvested multiple times. By comparison, hardwood trees take 60 to 80 years to mature and are harvested only once.
Bamboo plants and products made from them remove atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) from the environment at much greater levels than carbon is emitted in shipping products to market. Teragren’s recent carbon audit revealed that no more than 25 percent of the CO2 sequestered in Teragren products is emitted during the transportation of those products to market. The remaining 75 percent of sequestered carbon is permanently locked up within the products themselves.
